Experience

  • Matthew joined BLM as a paralegal in 2005, and obtained a training contract in 2007 qualifying as a solicitor in 2009.
  • He was promoted to associate in 2011 and to partner in 2014.
  • He specialises in employers' liability and public liability claims with an emphasis on acting for public sector customers, particularly registered providers of social housing.
  • He also has many years' experience working for social landlords directly dealing with cases connected with the exercise of their housing management function.
  • He has particular expertise in dealing with complex possession and injunction proceedings involving anti social behaviour. This work often involves dealing with human rights and public law challenges, and managing cases involving individuals with mental health and/or capacity issues.

 

Significant reported cases:

  • Represented a local authority in a successful High Court appeal relating to the construction of their Housing Act 1996 s128 notice (Wolverhampton City Council v Helen Shuttleworth [2012]).
