Matthew Hyam

  • I joined BLM as a paralegal in 2005, obtained a training contract in 2007 and qualified as a solicitor in 2009. I was promoted to associate in 2011 and made partner in 2014.
  • I specialise in employers' liability and public liability claims with an emphasis on acting for public sector clients, particularly registered providers of social housing.
  • My many years experience includes working for social landlords directly dealing with cases connected with the exercise of their housing management function.
  • My particular expertise is in dealing with complex possession and injunction proceedings involving anti social behaviour. This work often involves dealing with human rights and public law challenges, and managing cases involving individuals with mental health and/or capacity issues.

Significant reported cases:

  • I represented a local authority in a successful High Court appeal relating to the construction of their Housing Act 1996 s128 notice (Wolverhampton City Council v Helen Shuttleworth [2012]).
