Turnover tops £100m at BLM

Risk and insurance law business BLM has revealed record financial results, with turnover hitting £104.1m and profit standing at £18.3m.

BLM, which has a strong presence in Liverpool, also grew its headcount by 35% to 1,650. It acts for 12 of the top 15 UK insurers, is established in the London Market and has relationships with brokers across the country. The company also has a significant presence amongst corporate insureds, the public sector and the healthcare industry.

The firm is passionate about gender equality and has strong female representation throughout the business. At the close of its financial year, 63% of its lawyers were female while 83% of partnership promotions in 2015 were for women.

Over the last 18 months BLM has combined with two other law firms – HBM Sayers in Scotland and Campbell Fitzpatrick Solicitors in Ireland, giving the business a true presence and reach across the whole of the UK and Ireland.

Senior partner Mike Brown, said: “The growth, expansion and development of the firm aren’t just reflected in an increase in turnover and profits. They are reflected in the new business we secure, the nature of the work we are handling and the talent we continue to attract, not just from the legal market but from the insurance market too.

“We have a goal to become one of the leading global risk and insurance law business by 2020 and we’re confident we can do that if we continue on our current path.”
