Reforms to UK insurance law: overview of key changes

BLM consultant David Hertzell examines the series of insurance law reforms that have recently been introduced in the UK and provides an overview of key changes, highlighting how they will also have a considerable effect outside the UK, for Thomson Reuters' Practical Law Insurance and Reinsurance Global Guide 2016.

"A series of insurance law reforms have recently been introduced in the UK following an extensive consultation carried out by the Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission. These reforms resulted in the adoption of three new Acts of Parliament:

  • The Third Parties (Rights against Insurers) Act 2010.
  • The Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012.
  • The Insurance Act 2015.
