Analysis - on the trail of e-scooter trials

02 Feb 2021

The government is expected to review the trials of e-scooters in the latter half of this year - trials started in various cities across the UK last June.

It is not yet known if insurance will be compulsory for e-scooter users; currently only providers of e-scooters need insurance, with some providers offering insurance to the user. Alistair Kinley has spoken to Insurance Post about the ongoing trials and how they are 'no doubt a greener alternative' to some modes of transport in our major cities.

Alistair commented:

"...the unfortunate reality is that people will get hurt by e-scooters just as they do by cars, motorbikes, bicycles and e-bikes. The data the trials are generating will be crucial to informing future decisions on key issues such as user competence, safety and insurance."
