No time to hide on Scottish independence

13 Jul 2021

What could Scottish independence mean for the insurance sector? In a recent article for Insurance Post which looks at the recent elections for Scottish parliament and how the topic of a second independence referendum was raised at the same time, BLM Partner Karen Dance comments on the possible transition.

Speaking about how Brexit will also have an effect, Karen said, "It is difficult to predict whether an independent Scotland would choose alignment of regulatory bodies with other parts of the former UK or with the EU, but certainly the stated intention of the pro-independence parties is for re-admission to the EU."

The article goes on to also discuss the issue of currency, should Scotland not remain independent and the ramifications of that, amongst other issues which could trigger delays with insurance claims settlements over time.
