Insurer has to pay for car that spontaneously combusts in garage

03 Jul 2019

Imagine if your car were to catch fire spontaneously! No, it's not a scene from the new Bond movie but rather a recent case in Spain - a man drove his car and parked it in his garage. 24 hours later it caught fire due to an electrical fault causing €45,000 worth of damage.

The court came down in favour of  the property insurer finding that the motor insurer would have to pay the claim for damages.

Here, BLM's director of policy and government affairs, Alistair Kinley writes for Insurance Business Magazine with a full commentary on the case. Click here to be redirected to the Insurance Business website.
