Guide to the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015

24 Sep 2015

Partner, Sarah Mansfield discusses the upcoming introduction of The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations have been discussed in a draft format since around March 2015 but on 14 September 2015, the Bill received final approval in Parliament with the regulations set to come into force on 1 October 2015.

The regulations provide a duty for 'relevant landlords' to provide smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in their tenants’ properties. The aim of this is to try and increase the numbers of properties in the country with these types of alarms in order to reduce the risks of death and injury that can occur with fires and carbon monoxide exposure.
