COVID-19: the potential impact on fraudulent claims

Covid-19 has been described as the biggest and most serious peacetime challenge the UK has faced. Much depends on how long the crisis continues and the resulting impact it will have on the UK’s infrastructure, economy and effect on the prevalence and trends that may emerge in the area of fraud. We are in fact already seeing things move quickly and the impact is starting to unfold.

 

In light of the current situation it is likely that a significant number of the people involved in suspected fraudulent claims will, like the rest of the population, be in various stages of infection, isolation or employment restriction. Judges, court staff, experts, lawyers, insurer staff, witnesses, insureds and claimants will have to cope with both work and personal life impacts of Covid-19.
