Containing the Covid-19 threat to the marine sector

COVID-19 has impacted the marine sector in ways which are unprecedented; it has seen the sharpest decline in trade in 35 years as all areas of the marine world were affected by the pandemic, including manufacturing, warehouse facilities, seafarer problems and insurance policies.

In her most recent commentary for Insurance Post BLM Partner and Marine expert, Gemme Pearce describes how risk assessements are crucial to ensuring the ongoing safety of both the vessel and its crew:

“The starting point for all has been to follow government guidance, as failure to do so could result in sanctions against the operator, costs of which may not be recoverable under a policy, and/or claims in negligence from employees who potentially could have been unduly exposed due to a lack of system,”
