BLM to shine spotlight on pollution incidents

02 Feb 2015

Michael Salau, BLM partner and head of the environment team, has been selected to present at the UKSPILL2015 Annual Conference, a full one day conference at which environmental experts address issues associated with oil spill incidents and the release of other chemical substances to the environment.

The event, which takes place on 3 February 2015, is organised and operated by the UK Spill Association, a non-profit organisation, which is supported by the Environmental and Maritime Agencies of the United Kingdom.

Michael will focus his presentation on pollution incidents, providing a legal overview of the implications and recent case law.  Commenting on the issue, Michael said: “Pollution incidents continue to hit the headlines.  According to the most recent statistics from the Environment Agency published in 2013, there were reports of about 22,000 pollution incidents each year, which equates to more than 60 per day. At times like this, pollution incident response plans are crucial. I am delighted to be asked to present at this year’s UKSPILL2015, which provides an opportunity to bring this important issue to the fore.”
