BLM strengthens construction professional indemnity offering with new partner appointment

09 Jan 2019

Insurance risk and commercial law firm, BLM has appointed new partner Gary Wicks to join the firm’s professional and financial risks group in the London office. Gary joins the firm from Plexus.

Gary brings with him over 20 years’ experience in acting for a wide range of professionals. He advises on coverage issues, claims for and against employers, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and other construction professionals, including design and build contractors.

Gary is recommended in the Legal 500 as “outstanding”, “absolutely brilliant” and someone who “gets to grip on a case." He has extensive experience in commercial litigation, litigation in the Technology and Construction Court, arbitrations, adjudications, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, with a particular emphasis on mediation.

Matthew Harrington, senior partner at BLM, said: “As well as diversifying into additional areas of law which complement our insurance offering, our focus right now is to continue to grow our core areas including professional and financial risks. The appointment of Gary will not only strengthen our professional and financial risks expertise, it also enables us to expand our construction team as it supports clients in the UK and internationally.”

Julian Smart, head of the professional and financial risks group at BLM, said: “We are really pleased to be welcoming Gary to the firm. His expertise will complement the existing specialism in the team and our clients are delighted that he has chosen to join BLM. We hope his appointment will continue to help us build our growing roster of clients.”

BLM further invested in its London Market team with the appointment of Damian Cleary and reinsurance head Gavin Coull in the latter part of 2018; a year in which BLM also marked the one year anniversary of the launch of Global Insurance Law Connect, of which BLM is a founder member.
