BLM, the UK and Ireland’s leading risk and insurance law business has appointed new partner Fintan Canavan to its expanding team in Northern Ireland. Fintan, an abuse claims specialist, joins the firm’s Belfast office on 1 May 2015 from Jones & Co. His appointment comes just one month after the firm announced the hire of new partner Graeme Moore to its professional indemnity team in Belfast.
Fintan, who specialises in abuse claims, trained at Robin Thompson & Partners where he qualified in 1994. He became partner at Edwards & Co after relocating to Northern Ireland in 1997, and latterly Jones & Co. where he was involved in several high profile cases such as the Bloody Sunday Inquiry and the Inquiry into Hyponatraemia related deaths. Fintan has extensive experience in historical abuse claims and public inquiries, and frequently acts for insurance companies, complementing the firm’s existing market-leading offering in this area.
Commenting on the new appointment partner and head of the firm’s Irish offices, Peter Campbell, said: “We are thrilled to have Fintan on board with us. He brings a high level of expertise in a very specialised area of the law. He is a very valued addition to our abuse specialist lawyers at BLM and our ever-growing team in Belfast.”
BLM senior partner Mike Brown, said: “We have made two partner appointments in just one month in our Belfast office which is evidence of how determined we are to ensure we have the best lawyers and legal minds across all our offices. We are ambitious, and the firm continues to follow a path of great expansion. Fintan is just another example of how we are responding to customers’ needs by actively seeking out the best local talent which, in turn, offers our customers the best possible service across the UK and Ireland.”
BLM combined with Northern Ireland based law firm Campbell Fitzpatrick Solicitors on 1 December 2014, inheriting new offices in Belfast and Derry.
