Insurance risk and commercial law firm BLM, has appointed new partner Gary Thwaites to the firm’s professional and financial risks group in the London office. He is the second partner to join the team from Plexus this year.
Bringing with him over 16 years of experience, Gary has acted for a wide variety of professionals, working primarily with architects, engineers and other construction professionals. He also has extensive experience in advising insurers on coverage issues and disputes.
Gary has been recommended in the Legal 500 as an “experienced litigator” and is “noted for construction-related professional negligence claims”. In the past, he has handled numerous complex and high-value multi-party disputes for his clients, through both litigation and alternative forms of dispute resolution, such as mediation, arbitration and adjudication.
As well as defending claims for professionals and their insurers, Gary has worked on contract disputes and high-value debt recovery actions.
Matthew Harrington, senior partner at BLM, said: “This is another step in our efforts to strengthen our core teams, with Gary Thwaites being a major coup for the team and wider firm. We continue to improve the breadth of our services, diversifying the areas of expertise we offer, and providing our clients with fully-rounded legal support.”
This latest hire follows the appointment of Gary Wicks to the team in January.
Julian Smart, head of the professional and financial risks group at BLM, said: “With two senior appointments in a matter of months, the expertise in our team has never been stronger. We are delighted to be welcoming another high calibre addition to the team – I have no doubt that our clients will reap the benefits.”
With the addition of Stuart Evans as Head of Commercial Litigation for London and the appointment of new partner Sarah Drury to the London Market specialty group since the turn of the year, BLM has continued to strengthen its offering in key sectors.
