BLM bolsters partnership with three new senior hires

11 Jun 2019

BLM has welcomed three new partners to the firm this month. Deirdre Burgess and Bilal Mirza both join BLM’s catastrophic injury team from DWF, with Deirdre taking up a post in the London office and Bilal in Southampton. Dileep Pisharody has joined the firm’s professional and financial risks group in London from Rosling King.

Deirdre, Bilal and Dileep bring the number of senior hires at the firm this year to nine, in addition to 21 partner promotions, supporting the firm’s pledge to focus on succession planning and growing the business in its core areas.

Deirdre is a former Director at DWF, and joins BLM with nearly 30 years’ legal experience. With over 20 years’ specific experience in defending complex personal injury claims for major insurance companies, Deirdre’s focus will be within claims arising from road traffic accidents.

Bilal, moving from DWF’s London office has 20 years’ experience of working in large value catastrophic injury claims with major global insurers and re-insurers. As a specialist in sports law, Bilal has extensive experience defending sports-related injuries as well as sports litigation, disputes and arbitration at every level from amateur to professional and in particular on behalf of National Governing Bodies and their stakeholders. His appointment will extend BLM’s expertise in an area under increasing scrutiny.

Dileep specialises in dealing with a wide variety of construction disputes most notably relating to construction professionals.  He also has vast experience of claims against other professions such as solicitors, surveyors and accountants. He has dealt with insurance and reinsurance disputes, especially coverage issues within professional indemnity and financial lines insurance policies, having been at specialist insurance law firms for over 18 years.

Matthew Harrington, senior partner at BLM, said: “People, technology and processes are our three key priorities this year. There’s no doubt that the appointment of Deirdre, Bilal and Dileep will strengthen the depth and breadth of knowledge in our specialist teams. They are well-regarded practitioners with unparalleled legal experience, and these appointments are a real coup for our catastrophic injury and professional and financial risks groups.

“Deirdre, Bilal and Dileep join us at a time of great diversification of our services and expertise, and alongside our other recent key senior hires, will play crucial roles in meeting the needs of our clients.”

Deirdre, Bilal and Dileep join BLM following the recent appointments of Anthony Rawlins, also from DWF; Gary Thwaites and Gary Wicks who joined the London office’s professional and financial risks group from Plexus; as well as Sarah Drury who joined the London Market specialty group to develop the firm’s energy practice.
