BLM has appointed Ross Baker to its London-based professional indemnity team.
Having previously worked at BLM as a solicitor and associate between 2002 and 2009, Ross has returned as a partner and will specialise in professional indemnity and directors’ and officers’ insurance.
Ross has over 16 years’ experience in the London insurance market, including a secondment in the financial lines team of a major US insurer. He joins BLM from Bond Dickinson, where he spent nearly four years as partner.
His most recent work consists of defending high value claims involving allegations of breach of warranty of authority, fraud, misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty and negligence. This includes providing coverage advice to insurers in relation to investor claims arising out of numerous tax mitigation schemes.
Ross Baker, partner at BLM, said: “I have strong relationships with many in BLM having trained at the firm, and I am delighted to be coming home to such a strong team and working alongside many of the world’s largest insurers.
“With the firm also having such strength and depth of expertise across financial lines, BLM represents the ideal platform for me to build on my existing skill set, and I look forward to helping the team support its strong customer base.”
Julian Smart, partner and head of professional indemnity at BLM, said: “The professional indemnity team is an area of the business that we are keen to expand, and the appointment of Ross is certainly a boost and we are very pleased to have him back.
"During his 16 years in the London insurance market, Ross has developed a breadth of knowledge in this sector and has extensive experience in claims against the full spectrum of professionals, which makes him a perfect addition to the team.”
