The topic of the moment is the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations), but what does it actually mean? The GDPR is an updated EU-wide data protection legislation, brought in to update existing data protection laws, which is coming into force on Friday 25 May 2018. In order to address the risks posed to personal data, privacy by computers, and the internet and to deal with the flaws in the existing data protection legislation, the GDPR was approved by the European Parliament in 2016.
While the majority of organisations will already be aware of the requirements of the GDPR regulations, many may be concerned as to how best to prepare for the legislation, and what needs to be done practically to ensure compliance with it, in a short space of time.
Airmic, the association for those responsible for risk management and insurance in organisations, drew on BLM partner Nick Gibbons’s expertise in this area to develop a step by step whitepaper. In addition, Nick, with the contribution of BLM’s data protection officer, Chris Miller, delivered a detailed webinar for organisations navigating their way through the upcoming regulations.
