Ben FitzHugh speaks to Insurance POST - An insurance fraud epidemic?

As a result of financial pressures brought about by the pandemic this year, insurers have said that they expect to see a big rise in opportunistic and organised fraud - specifically claims farmers who are targeting people who are trying to find their feet after a tumultuous six months.


Speaking alongside several senior industry figures representing insurance, BLM's Director of Intelligence, Ben FitzHugh commented on the issue for Insurance Post and said.


"While all of these are seemingly disparate areas of the claims industry, the same protagonists are active in pursuing potential claimants and their claims. Therefore, collaboration in understanding their route to market in these areas is key. We are seeing claimant firms that were traditionally motor focused now heavily engaged in other claims areas so it is important that information continues to be shared across product type to ensure we maintain the rich intelligence picture that we have historically had.”
