Alistair Kinley has spoken to Insurance Times on the recently launched consultation from the Department for Transport over what rules should be administered to e-scooters on the UK's roads.
Speaking on the requirement that insurers may have to design products for this new regulation, Alistair has pointed out that they will need access to strong historical data, of which there is none at present. He says, "Any data on the cost of an accident relating to e-scooters would be really important for insurers. I don't think there is particularly strong data on how risky these things are; there has been one very high profile death."
Speaking in more detail about how e-scooters may be classified on the road in insurance terms and what risks may be posed to other road users, Alistair's full commentary can be read here (subscription required).
