Achievement Award for BLM Consultant

09 Jul 2015

We would like to congratulate former‎ Law Commissioner and BLM consultant, David Hertzell, who took home the final and prestigious Achievement Award at last night's British Insurance Awards (BIA).

The Achievement Award winner is chosen by the BIA judging panel in consultation with the wider industry. It is presented to an individual who has 'made an outstanding contribution to the success of the insurance industry through their illustrious career'.

David joined the firm in January 2015 from the Law Commission. He has been the leading force on the implementation of both consumer and commercial insurance contract reform and he has been working with the team at BLM to inform, educate and prepare the firm's customers in advance of the implementation of the Insurance Act.

David is currently the President of the British Insurance Law Association; Chair of the CII Professional Standards Board; a member of the Airmic board and he sat on the audit and risk committee of the Judicial Appointments Committee.

BLM partner, Terry Renouf commented on David's success. He said: "‎To have changed legislation that had been the bedrock of a successful industry for over 100 years and to do so by pulling together so many diverse views and achieving a consensus across the whole sector is a remarkable achievement demonstrating shrewd and skilful leadership. This award is an appreciation by the sector of the opportunity that a 'fit for purpose' law offers. In many years' time we will come to see "Hertzell's Law" as an even more significant achievement than we do right now. Congratulations David.
